What Is Digital Marketing
What Is Digital Marketing?
Marketing had been around ever since human beings had strong needs and wants which they sought to satisfy. Marketing in it’s purest form seeks to match up interested customers with people who can sell a desired product or provide a desired service. This was all well and good when people read newspapers everyday and listened to the radio all afternoon, but nowadays everyone is online. Marketing realised that it needed to follow it’s audience onto the internet and hence the birth of digital marketing.
Digital marketing is a broad term and encompasses a variety of activities. Everything from website creation to SEO optimisation and from social media management to paid advertising comes under the umbrella term ‘Digital Marketing’. Essentially, this is any form of marketing which is electronic or online. A dedicated digital marketing agency will usually have a variety of different marketers. Perhaps they have an email marketer, a social media marketer and a paid advertising marketer. This all seems well and good until they invoice the expense of hiring all their specialists. Thankfully, one digital marketer can master many areas of digital marketing is they wish to do so and these individuals are often just as knowledgeable and much more affordable than bigger agencies.
You might be asking yourself ‘Do I really need to hire a digital marketer? Can’t I just do it myself?’. To which I’d answer with this analogy: If I gave you a pair of scissors you could cut your own hair and yet you still prefer to go to a professional. A professional digital marketer, much like a professional barber or hairdresser, will save you time and provide you with a better quality service than you could do on your own. But truth be told, you could definitely do it by yourself, just be prepared to live with the results – dodgy haircut and all!
Digital Marketing is a relative new and definitely complicated field, so I hope this brief introduction has given you an idea of what it’s all about.
